Crop top - Topshop
Shorts - from Korea
Flannel shirt - Thrifted
Boots - To Be Announced via Wasteland

Brrrrrringg-brrring school's in check. I'm dreading the influx of school work, university tête-à-têtes, the looming doom of exams, and to top it all off, restraining myself from heading to school in my pajamas. If you're like me and are free from the constraints of a uniform, here's an idea for what to wear on a day of selling your soul (just kidding, school is great...). I prefer wearing shorts over skirts on a school day, especially since I'll be trekking up and down an endless spiral of stairs to get to class, which is where my boots come in handy (they also add a sneaky bit of height). The plus side of sporting this look is that when the air-conditioning is turned up to replicate an arctic experience, simply untie the extra flannel shirt and wear it to avoid those goosebumpz. Pretty practical right?

Space buns... corn rows... twists and turns. Personally I adore the look of space buns, they're grunge in a quirky way that will either make you look super cool or be prepared for your friends to be reluctant to be seen with you in public. It's an eccentric way of getting that hair out of your face when you're doing art or other laborious work instead of a banal ponytail. But it's a fine line between looking like Chun-Li from Street Fighter and looking like a UNIF poster girl. Fall is the season of messy unkempt braids and fishtails, but instead of the generic mermaid fishtail, try incorporating little braids into tousled twists for a more boho vibe. I've also been digging cornrows. Although I'm terrible at corn-rowing my own hair, I gave it a shot (refer to the shady photobooth collage below). It's a spunky alternative to pinning back your hair and shaving the side of your head (which I've been thinking of doing). Cornrowing the side of my hair in the meantime would be a better decision for me and my parents apprehension.

I didn't realize how long it's been since my last playlist update - ooops! I'm a music junkie and I tend to make new playlists every month, but instead of bombarding you with every playlist I've made since January, here are some songs I've been listening to lately with one or two stand-outs from previous months. Lately, I've been listening to a ton of The Strokes and The Vaccines, as well as the super cool Lorde (16 and full of teenage angst). As a friend once said to me, "Something about The Strokes just makes you fall in love with music again." Amen.

For more songs from the summery months, click on my Spotify playlist below! You'll also be able to find my tunes from earlier this year - beware: my playlist titles are a little weird.

Bag - "Jazz" Courtesy of JumpFromPaper, from their Time Machine 2013 collection.
Top - Hongdae fashion street in Seoul, South Korea
Shorts - One Teaspoon
Bracelets - SHH Jewelry

"So... is it really a bag?" The first question I've heard from several people after introducing them to JumpFromPaper. My response: yes, although I had my doubts too, it's capable of holding quite a few things! A creative bag pioneered by a bold designer duo hailing from Taiwan who aim to subvert fashion norms and unleash their whimsical imagination unto the unsuspecting public. The result is a surprising fashion statement that seriously makes you do a double-take (trust me, I've seen people question this bag on 9gag). I thought it would be fitting to pair it up with a Bart Simpson-plastered-tee, a memento of my childhood and Bart's carpe-diem way of life (or #yolo if you like) that reminds me of JumpFromPaper's motto.

The spontaneity and quirkiness behind the brands philosophy is truly admiral, and emulates the style of those who buy them. Having said that, they carry an array of vibrant colors to compliment your unique style, whether it be flamboyant or subtle. Personally I gravitated towards a more subdued color palette, but after spotting these bags making waves across the Internet and on the streets, I'm a little regretful that I didn't choose something with more color. I'm sure it won't be the last I'll be seeing of them!

Drakkar Noir

drakkar noir

drakkar noir by stylepockets featuring black handbags

There's a typhoon brewing outside so I'm sitting in my room daydreaming about monochromatic outfit pairings (with a touch of blue). Maybe it's the weather that's inclining me to wear more black, or it could just be my impatience to start wearing fall clothes. I didn't even bother to include the item details because I do not expect my readers to go forth and purchase an Acne, or much less a Kenzo tote bag after seeing this post (although that would be a dream). But feel free to click onto the Polyvore link if you are curious about the brands!

Happy typhoon day?

What's in my bag ?

Thanks to the lovely folk over at JumpFromPaper, I received the quirkiest bag in my life (as well as the sweetest note written on the back of the acrylic logo cut-out)! Their infectious boldness and creativity inspired me to write a clichéd "what's in my bag?" post. So behold, the contents of my bag exposed for your viewing pleasure:

IMG_9144
1) Everything-I-need-to-not-look-awkward-in-public iPhone + eternally tangled earbuds a.k.a. the Apple grab 'n' go.
2) A less than flattering packet of tissues, but a necessity none the less.
3) Fun fact: I've never chewed gum in my life (actually I tried it once but spat it out immediately), ergo mints have become a staple in my adolescent life (and handbag).
4) Honestly, sunglasses are only in my bag during the summer when the glaring sun decides to blind you... but since we're being honest, the reflective lens also makes me feel a little cooler, and who doesn't want to seem cooler when the sun comes out?
5) My loyal ragged wallet that's been thrown, kicked, abused, chewed on by my dog etc.
6) A habit from my childhood that induced an introversive period in my life. Handy for family dinners and avoiding small talk. Advice: take advantage of the backpack trend to hoard these!
7) Usually I'd carry a mini makeup bag if I'm out the whole day, but anti-shine powder and (two types of) lip balm are sufficient for a summers day.
8) ... Okay this isn't typically in my bag, but it was in there when I emptied it's contents. At least I'll have a healthy snack ready if I'm surrounded by packets of processed junk!
9) Pen + a wad of sticky notes. My little notebook is currently camouflaging in a hoard of other miscellaneous items on my desk that I'm refusing to acknowledge exists... so this will have to suffice.

And don't worry! A new outfit post is in the process of being dusted off and polished for its debut. So for now, here's a little sneak peek of Bart Simpson.

Have a lovely week everyone!
